Meet Matthew and Crystal (and Lanikai)

Last week I met Matthew and Crystal, who are about to embark on a cross country bicycle tour, following the Adventure Cycling TransAm route.  Matthew is riding a custom painted Rivendell Atlantis with 26″ wheels, and Crystal is on a Rivendell Bleriot with 650B wheels.  We just tuned up both of their bikes, and hopefully they will have a safe trip as they head to Yorktown.  They are writing a blog about their trip, you can check them out here.  They are making their final preparations (adding luggage racks and doing some shake down rides, etc.) and will be heading out on Thursday.

I’d also like to include this photo:Lanikai is our shop dog, and has been at my shop for just about as long as I have.  She is a purebred Golden Retriever, and is the mellowest 2.5 year old dog I have ever encountered.  She literally sleeps most of the day, except for when she is being showered with love from customers and passers by.

Tomorrow Grant and I are heading out for another overnighter, this time we’ll both have our proper camera gear ready.  Should be fun.  I’m working on cooking some delicious indian meals on my Trangia cookset, never can have too much practice!

Until the next update, keep Pushing those Pedals!!

Love Golden Retrievers, my Golden, Taylor, gave my family 14 years of happiness. I couldn’t help but notice that your Golden’s name is Lanikai. Did you spend time in Hawaii, perhaps in the Kailua, Lanikai area?
My LBS is building up an AHH frameset that I received from Rivendell about two weeks ago, can’t wait to ride it.
Keep up the good work, I like the stories and pictures.

Lani is named after the beach in Hawaii, both of the owners of my shop grew up in there. The Hilsen is a really nice bike, Waterford really builds a nice frame! I have a couple of friends who ride them, and they love them!

Hi Daniel! We made it — our bikes held up great, thanks for all your help in the beginning. We wish our bikes were as spankin’ as they were when we first started. Enjoy your upcoming trip!
