A few weeks ago Cass Gilbert emailed to say he would be in town soon and would I like to meet up and ride some trails? He’s taking a break from his tour from Alaska to Patagonia to visit friends in the US. We had never met, but I’d been interested to pick his brain about dirt touring and world travel for quite some time.

Cass is currently riding a Surly Troll with a Rohloff (Similar to the bike Aaron rode on Manali-Leh). He’s using some really slick soft bags from Porcelain Rocket, and can carry a full load of camping gear including food and water without any conventional racks.
Heading home, Bobcat Trail in the morning
We came back a week later, this time I had my own giant pyramid tarp, the GoLite Shangri La 5
This guy really knows his stuff. In addition to riding his mountain bikes all around the world, he ran his own touring company in the Indian Himalayas for five years.
On New Years Day, a good friend and customer Jill K. invited us to her annual Pig Roast Extravaganza, and how could we say no?
Pictures don’t do it justice.
I think you know what happens next.
A small mob descended on this pig and devoured it with forks, because the meat was that tender. No part went to waste, and I saw at least a few pieces of toast with brains spread on them being consumed.

great to meet you, ride some dirt and camp out with you Daniel. that hog roast was incredible!
