Yes, I know it’s been a bit since I last updated, and a ton has happened. I’m now in the south of France after two weeks of intense training and travel with Backroads. My adventure
started with a trip to the hot springs of central Utah what seems like forever ago.
The Mariachi all packed up in it’s new EVOC case and ready to fly.
At the Airport, the bag tracks nicely on it’s wheels, and fit everything (surprisingly) including my camping gear, helmet and bike bags.
We stayed at Mystic Mike’s hot spring in Monroe, Utah for Memorial Day weekend, sleeping in a couple of very rustic cabins. This one had a pond.
Our neighbors for the trip. They made the water boil with activity any time a piece of organic material was thrown in.
Making dinner on a couple of found cooking implements. Naturally, everything tastes better cooked over burning wood.
The view in Monroe was wonderful, and the hot spring that was routed to the pools and tubs was the perfect thing for nights filled with stars.
How could I resist including some of the local Wal Mart parking lot culture?
The perfect weekend for relaxing before plunging into a stressful two weeks of training.
There’s a ton to update still, thanks for hanging in there! Let’s just say that I didn’t end up where I anticipated going. Here’s one more:
That’s Marc, one of the head mechanics at the Salt Lake City warehouse. The bike in the workstand is one of the custom designed titanium road bikes built by Van Nicholas. They are actually smartly designed and ride very well. Room for 25mm slicks or 32mm cross tires depending on the terrain they will be ridden on. Fortunately I didn’t have to spend the 20 scheduled hours learning to fix flat tires and adjust stems during training and instead got to skip straight to building the new Specialized S-Works Roubaix fleet in the bike shop. Hooray!
Stay tuned, more to come soon now that training is over. You’ll never guess where I am now! Nevermind, many of you will definitely guess where I am.

Are you rocking a pair of Aldens in the airport?
Can’t be without my 405s!
